We proactively utilize subsidy programs to develop technologies that lead to ecological and energy-saving solutions.
Making use of the subsidy program for the rationalization of business operators’ energy use by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), we are actively investing in energy saving and CO2 reduction.
Over the course of the last five fiscal years (fiscal 2014 through 2018), Denka has been granted subsidies for 13 projects under subsidy programs sponsored by government ministries.
Making use of the subsidy program for the rationalization of business operators’ energy use by METI, we achieved expected outcomes by introducing chloroprene rubber manufacturing facilities and electrolysis plants at Omi Plant, styrene manufacturing facilities at Chiba Plant, and highly efficient boilers at Shibukawa Plant. In fiscal 2018, a high-performance lime furnace was built and started its operation. The multi-year project, Energy Saving by Gas Turbine Power Generation has started at Omi Plant in fiscal 2018, and future results are expected.
Forming a consortium with Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., Kajima Corporation and LANDES Co., Ltd., Denka conducted a project aimed at facilitating the popularization of CO2-SUICOM, environment-friendly concrete. This ongoing project was selected for a subsidy program for the verification of carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) technologies under the auspices of METI’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE). In addition, the product won the 2014 Environment Minister’s Award for Global Warming Prevention Activity.
The Omuta Plant conducted a project aiming for developing SiC power modules that was subsidized by the Novel Semiconductor Power Electronics Project Realizing Low Carbon Emission Society subsidy program operated under the auspices of METI and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization. The Chiba Plant’s ultra-high purity acetylene black production facility started its operation in 2015 utilizing the Subsidy for Domestic Location Promotion Projects.
